On/Off or Dimmer Switch?

Lumpyhead wakes up in the morning ready to go. The minute he opens his eyes, he bolts from his room at full speed. Bump and I hear his door squeak, immediately followed by the THUMP-THUMP-THUMP-THUMP-THUMP of the boy running down the hall. "Goddamn," we'll grumble at each other over the thundering, "how many children are out there?"

Lula - like her father and me - takes a few minutes to wake up. She's happy to lie in her bed quietly for awhile, spending her first few post-sleep moments drowsy.

What about your kids? You? Do you wake up ready to take on the day at a dead run, or do you scowl at anyone who crosses your path during the first fifteen minutes?

More importantly, will Lumpyhead outgrow this Morning Person phase, or will he be our alarm clock for the next fifteen years?

I have a haaaard time waking up (often a consequence of having had a hard time falling asleep). Ben's up before I am and, 4 out of 5 days I hear "Mamma? MAMMA?" .02 seconds after I hear the shower go on. I think she waits till she hears someone else get up (THANK GOD). The 1 in 5 days she doesn't hear him get up and I get to roll over and drowse? Are freaking SWEET.

I don't think I've ever heard the words "Morning Person" and "phase" in combination before. I'm sorry.

As a kid, I was the morning person and my parents not so much. I was trained early to get myself up and ready for school, then wake them a couple of minutes before they had to walk me to the bus. I think our coffee process was too dangerous for a 7 year old or I would have woken them with steaming cups in hand. LH sounds ready to be responsible for the morning chores in your house. Or you can send him to Architecture school; I'm not a morning person anymore.

We are a family of morning scowlers. We had to buy Petunia an alarm clock to make mornings easier so we could actually make it out the door at a reasonable time. The one thing I am DREADING about kindergarten is the 8:10 am start time. It's going to be rough. When we went to NYC over Inauguration Weekend, we all slept in until about 9 every day. Except for the morning Petunia woke up about 7:30, squirmed around in her bed and then quietly said "Cockadoodledoo!" and giggled. I could handle being woken up like that everyday.

Today both my kids stumbled into my room together, falling all over each other and fighting at the same time. Not how I like to start the day.

I like to get up either first or last, on my own terms, but this never happens.

I don't fully wake up till 9, and once I've had dinner I'm ready for bed. I think it's because, like kenandbelly, I have a hard time falling asleep.

My twins are one of each. The boy is like Lumpyhead, on/off. No matter what time he goes to sleep, he wakes up and takes off far too early. The girl twin is like Lula (and me) and has a dimmer switch that slowly brings her up to speed. Ain't variety grand? I hate to say this, but he's going to be your wakeup call until he's trained to manage himself :)

I just wrote about this on my blog yesterday! (I'm totally a morning person. As is one of my 3 boyz.)

My daughter lounges in her crib until whenever anyone bothers to get her. Content! My two boys... they have a VERY FULL SCHEDULE of BICKERING and FIGHTING today, and they have to get up PRE-TY early in the morning to get it all in. Don't want to get behind, now. Got a lot of work to do! Get a jump start, like 5:30 or 6a... that should put a dent in all that BICKERING they need to do, today. Whew.

*sigh*
