All Look Same

So help me God, I cannot tell the Voltaggio brothers apart on Top Chef.

I'm usually pretty good at names and faces, but these two are a complete mystery to me. I've been watching all season, and constantly confuse the two.

Maybe it's a sibling thing. When I was growing up, my brother had a friend named Faron who I couldn't distinguish from his little brother Vincent. One was blond, the other wasn't. (But which ONE was blond? I DON'T KNOW!)

Have you ever mistaken someone for somebody else? Please tell me about it so I don't feel like such a moron.

A sibling mix-up would make me feel a lot better, but you won't be doing me any favors if your story involves identical twins.

If it makes you feel better, I cannot tell those two hotties from each other. One is Michael and the other one isn't. I talk about the one who is from MD or the one who is all tatted up. No idea which name goes with which guy. And yes, I've been watching all season too.

My sister and I are FIVE years apart. We look similar but I've had roommates come in and start telling her about bills instead of me. She used my ID for the first 4 years she live in Chicago.

I can't tell you how many times people look at us, get this wierd look on their face and say "Twins, right?" They stop us on the street, in stores, at restaurants...all because they think we are twins. We are not.

However, it gives us a really good laugh AND it makes me know that one day when I'm old and gray I will be flattered that someone thinks I look as good as my sister who is FIVE years younger! :-)

Dear Anonymous,
I know you said "sisters" but you're really one of the Voltaggio brothers, trying to disguise yourself, aren't you?

I can tell them apart, but I can't remember which one is named what. I am too busy wondering why they NEVER smile...

This is a true story ... I believe it will make you feel better.

Earlier this year at my shall-remain-nameless workplace, it so happened that the adult child of a woman in another department passed away suddenly in the foreign country where the family is from. Tragic. Very sad. It wasn't a woman with whom I work face-to-face, but we had emailed occasionally and had acknowledged each other's professional existence.

Just a few days later, I saw her in the hallway at work. I was surprised to see her there so soon after the death, but who knows how people cope, right? I approached her in the hall, gave her a hug, and told her how sorry I was for her loss, prayers for her family, etc. She looked at me a little funny, but there is a language barrier at work here and we were both talking to other people when we passed in the hall, so I just moved on.

Yeah ... you see where this is going. Three days later I got a phone call from H fucking R (!), where I was summoned and informed that seƱora X was confused and uncomfortable about being hugged in the hallway and wanted to know why. It was *not* the lady with the dead son (she was abroad at the funeral); it was another middle-aged Latino lady with the same build, same haircut, also with glasses, etc.

Emotional stages:
1) I am so mortified I want the floor to swallow me up.
2) I hope HR doesn't think I'm one of those "all brown people look alike" whiteys!
3) WTF? That bitch seriously called HR instead of just walking up to me and saying, "Yo, why did you hug me the other day? That was weird..."

So if there really is a "permanent record" that they keep telling us about, mine now contains a notation of inappropriate hugging. Fabulous!

Why yes. I've been mistaken for you...by you!

I have occasionally mistaken a complete stranger for an acquaintance. I once lept upon the back of a girl I thought was a good friend of mine. Does that count?

Who cares, they are both hot and could cook me breakfast in bed any day of the week.

On a serious side, Bryan's restaurant is only and hour away. Sadly, it's booked up for over a month at this point.
