Garbage

What do you do with your trash?

For twelve years we brought our trash to a basement trash room, where it was picked up several times a week. Last year we kept a covered trash bin in the carport, with lots of shade and air circulating.

We still have a covered wheeled trash bin, but I don't know what to do with it.

First we kept it in the garage, but it didn't take long for the garage to smell like trash. So now we keep the bin in the driveway, where it sits in the sun all day.

Hey, guess what? Sun + poop + meat = dear LORD somebody do something about that odor. We had to move the can to the side of the house because the stench was so awful.

So, what do you do? What should I do? (Other than potty training all the children, because I'm working on it already. God.)

We put ours on the side of the house, hidden behind a large shrub. Genteel suburbanites, apparently, aren't allowed to acknowledge to their neighbors that they generate trash, and therefor all trash bins must remain hidden at all times. Which is silly, because, hello? It's trash. It'd be like not letting anyone see your bathroom because that would reveal that you do, in fact, poop on occasion.

America is weird.

We keep our bin in the garage.

Then we don't go in there unless we have to.

Hmmmm....wheel it next door and leave it there. Tell them it's part of the HOA requirements.

Ours is by our front door. I know I know, but we live in a very middle/inner unit in a long row of townhouses, and aren't willing to drag it around to the backyard all the time.

So we keep it as clean as can be. And our HOA doesn't like it there, even though it's covered by a lovely trellis covered by my morning glories and isn't visible...oh never mind. These are my issues...and battle with the HOA.

We put it in the garage. And every time I leave the house I hold my breath until I am safely in the car. Not the best system, but I am at a loss as well as to what might work better...

You could try putting pooey nappies in special deodorising bags - though admittedly they work better on infant poos than they do on older kids' poos.

A couple of small measures: whenever possible, use the garbage disposal for leftovers. And shake out poopy diapers over the toilet. Maybe a shade-shed for the bins?
