Do You Think It’s a Sign of Postpartum Psychosis?

The itching has not stopped.

I gave the PUPPP a week to go away on its own before I went to the doctor. My OB took one look at the rash, told me it wasn’t PUPPP, and made an appointment for me with a dermatologist the next day. I was a little freaked out by the alarm with which my OB reacted, particularly because he wouldn’t let me back into the waiting room “because there were pregnant ladies in there.”

The dermatologist gave me a steroid lotion that our pediatrician confirmed was safe to use while nursing. At my follow-up appointment today, the dermatologist said, “Let’s see how you’re doing. Last week you were a mess.”

Thanks, Doc. If you think my skin is bad, you should have seen my nipples a week and a half ago.

The rash has begun to mock me. While it is starting to get better, it’s still spreading. Recently it’s begun taunting me with random images.

There’s this spooky ghost face:
Not convinced? Here’s a headless gingerbread man.
Yeah, it’s a little blurry. But it’s totally there. What, you still don’t think the rash is toying with me? Here’s Barney:
Not the dinosaur, the dog. The rash is causing Republican pets to appear on my skin!

Perhaps I should start watching TV or something instead of staring at my arms while I pump.

Um, okay. Blurry baby picture!

Skin diseases would be so much less distressing if they produced cartoon figures like yours.

That is one cute baby. I hope she doesn't get freaked out by the images of ghosts appearing on your skin!

I hope the Virgin Mary appears next. I'll be all like "Oh yeah, I totally knew LHM waaaayyy before the virgin sighting on her leg."

I'm waiting for Jesus to appear, maybe with his mom so Sarah and I can be all like, "oh yeah, we knew her before the holy family showed up on her thigh." I mean, really, if Republican pets are appearing, Christian icons can't be far behind. Unless, of course, God's not so into them (the R's, I mean).

And that baby? Gorgeous! But, has Lumpyhead gone into hiding?

I did not, honestly, think you could make a kid as cute as Lumpyhead.

Sometimes it's great to be wrong.

You missed the image of Roger Ebert on your stomach. Look closely again, he's there, smiling, with a thumbs up.

I am sorry the rash has driven you to these lengths. I think the baby is looking at you with a bit of concern.

And I am not going to be to impressed until your virgin mary shaped rash cries blood.

Eek, that does not look good - but that baby is too adorable!

Could be worse, you could have the song "Poison Ivy" stuck in your head, as I do now.

Hi, I was just wondering if you could tell me what your dermatologist said the rash was and what it is caused by? I am 10 weeks post partum and at about 3 weeks post partum a rash developed on both of my arms, and now it's spreading to my back. The doctor said they didn't know what it was to put zinc oxide on it but it's not working. If you could contact me via e-mail I would appreciate it so much! Thank you!
